Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are currently all temporary exclusives of PlayStation, but they may never come to Xbox, as the exclusivity of Square Enix titles seems to get worse in the near future.
On the ResetERA forum, the user Head on the Block provided correct information about various Japanese titles, recently commented on the exclusivity agreements between PlayStation and Square Enix, saying they are about to get much, much worse. Although it is unlikely that the informant is referring to a possible purchase of the publisher of the Final Fantasy series, as something like this would never leak in this way, it seems that the relationship between the two companies will get closer and closer.
If this is true, it will be very unpleasant for Xbox players, as it forces the purchase of a PlayStation console, or a gaming PC, to enjoy titles like Final Fantasy XVI. The announcement of Final Fantasy XIV for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S after years of console exclusivity PlayStation seemed to indicate a change in the publisher’s stance on exclusivity, but it seems that many of the publisher’s biggest titles may never come to Microsoft consoles.
Meanwhile, work on the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI continues. According to producer Naoki Yoshida, an SSD may be required to play the game, as no amount of optimization can overcome the hardware barrier of a mechanical hard drive.
